RIP 12/93 to 4/09
We have lost a local legend. Jody Payne, who played with Willie Nelson for more than three decades, passed away on Saturday at the age of 77. We talked to Jody on 95 KSJ a few times and it was always cool to hear Willie stories. RIP Jody.

A local musician and friend of the radio station, Ben Jernigan had this to say about Jody:
"When Jody retired from Willie's band somebody asked Willie who he was gonna get to play guitar. Willie said trying to replace Jody would be like trying to replace Ray Charles. He couldnt have been more correct. Jody was one of the most musically and personally inspiring people I've ever met because it didnt matter if he was talking to the biggest country star, or one of his guitar students, he treated them all exactly the same. He was really one of the most humble people I've ever encountered. He told me one time that he played on over 1300 albums and those were just the ones he could remember.
He really was a part of shaping what country music sounded like in my favorite era of that genre and I dont think I could miss him anymore than I do."
