Global warming is making the polar ice melt. It's also making the ice at the South Pole grow larger. It makes our summers hotter, and apparently it also causes our winters to be colder (and caused the record-breaking snowfall this winter). Global warming does all of those things and more. It's a lot like duct tape, because it's uses are only limited by the imagination.
