Tim Tebow is a really nice guy, and (a lot of the time) a great quarterback. I don't think there are many of you that would disagree with either of those statements.
Urban Meyer is a good coach, abeit a bit overwound sometimes. He almost retired because of all the stress associated with his job, but decided to stick with it and attempt to calm down a bit.
This past Wednesday at practice, Urban went off on a reporter from the Orlando Sentinal... why? Because he had the nerve to quote Florida receiver Deonte Thompson in the paper, saying some not-so-positive things about Timmy. It was actually more of a positive quote about the new signal caller, John Brantley. Since Timmy's graduating, someone had to step in... and so far, Thompson likes what he's seen in Brantley.
"You never know with Tim," Thompson said. "You can bolt, you think he's running but he'll come up and pass it to you. You just have to be ready at all times. With Brantley, everything's with rhythm, time. You know what I mean, a real quarterback."
OOPS. The underlying message there was that Timmy wasn't a real quarterback. Again, keep in mind a Florida receiver said that, not the reporter.
That didn't stop Urban from lashing out at the reporter, Jeremy Fowler. He even went so far as to threaten to take away the paper's credentials.
Meyer: "You'll be out of practice. ... you understand that? ... if you do that again" (pointing at Fowler) "I told you (the media) five years ago: Don't mess with our players. Don't do it. You did it. You do it one more time and the Orlando Sentinel's not welcome here ever again. Is that clear? It's yes or no."
Fowler: "Urban, come on. Don't make any threats. That's fine. I'll play by the rules... I'll play by the rules, but all I was doing is quoting the guy. I don't think I was the only one."
Urban: "You're a bad guy, man. You're a bad guy."
Fowler: "Thanks, Urban. I appreciate that."
Meyer: "If it was my son, we'd be going at it right now."
Here's a video of the incident. Enjoy!
