After a lot of pre-release hype, it's here: the latest iPhone release! This one is significantly different from previous models, with a new look and some cool new features. There's glass all around (which they claim is actually more durable), an improved display (same size, better resolution), better camera with flash (and a second camera in the front for video conferencing). On top of that, there's a new iPhone OS, which will go by the name iOS 4.

Here's a link to an interesting article called "iPhone 4: What You Need To Know"

How does the new iPhone compare to the other smartphone frontrunners? I've somehow managed to still not get caught up in the iPhone hoopla, even after the keynote address at WWDC on Tuesday. I was actually a Mac fanatic at one time, way before the days of the iPhone. I knew MacOS 7, 8, and 9 like a pro... and I started to get into X as well. But after a while, I got tired of the lack of software titles available, not to mention the steep upfront cost. The last Mac purchase I made was in 2002, a graphite iMac that I ordered over the phone (since only one store in Mobile carried them at the time, and they charged retail price for everything).

I bought my first PC in 2003 and haven't looked back. I also got my first Windows Mobile phone in 2005, and just purchased a new one earlier this year... the HTC Tilt 2, which I love.

How ironic that I find myself in the same position I was once in with my Mac computers: a small number of applications to work with compared to what most everyone else is using - except this time, I'm using a Microsoft OS-based device, and it's Apple with the huge catalog of apps. So once again, I'm on the outside looking in.

And since I am stubborn, I'll probably never get an iPhone. If Windows Mobile goes down, I'll likely go with something running Android. That's how I roll.
